"Domestic violence" Essay-650 words

 Essay on Domestic violence-650 WORDS:

          DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

“The time when domestic violence is more lethal

Is when a person is trying to leave the situation”

                                                                   (JULIE JOHNSTON)

Meaning of domestic violence:

The meaning of domestic violence can be taken as “violent or aggressive behavior within the home”.

Definition of domestic violence:

Domestic violence is not only physical violence, it is any behavior the purpose of which is to gain control over a partner, spouse, or any intimate family member.

Types of domestic violence:

There are many types of domestic violence few are discussed below:

1: Physical abuse

2: Emotional abuse

3: Financial abuse

4: Sexual abuse

5: Psychological abuse

--Physical abuse:

Physical abuse is the most common type of domestic violence. Physical abuse is the act causing injury to another person by the way of bodily contact.  It involves use of force against the victim, causing injury. Like pushing, pulling, kick, punch, stabbing, choking, or slapping, etc.  However, the injury does not mean that much that you need to go to the doctor but it can be minimal.

FOR EXAMPLE: If a person is slapping, kicking, or punching you several times but the injury is minimal that you don’t need to visit a doctor. Although, the injury is not much but still it is domestic violence.

Emotional abuse:

Emotional abuse is also a type of domestic violence. Emotional abuse is the way to control another person by using emotions to criticize, insult, shame, blame, or embarrassing a person. It is the hardest form of abuse.

FOR EXAMPLE: If a person is continually insulting, blaming, shaming, rejecting your ideas or views, making you doubt your own feelings, it is emotional abuse.

Financial abuse:

Financial abuse is the type of domestic violence in which a person uses the money to control his/her partner, to gain power and control over the person when the person is completely dependent on his/her partner.

FOR EXAMPLE: If a person is trying to control your use of your use of access to money and taking control over the money, it is financial abuse.

Sexual abuse:

Sexual abuse is a common type of domestic violence. It involved unwanted sexual activates by the use of force. It also includes unwelcome touching and demeaning behaviors.

FOR EXAMPLE:  Examples of sexual abuse include rape, unwanted touching, demeaning behaviors, etc.

Psychological abuse:

Psychological abuse is often called emotional abuse. It involves the person’s attempt to threaten, frighten, control, or isolate you. The abuser can be your partner or spouse.

FOR EXAMPLE:

Examples include preventing the victim to talk to another person, leaving the house without permission, threaten them by violence or emotional blackmailing.

Causes of domestic violence:

Domestic violence may start when one person feels the need to control or dominate the other partner. It is because of jealousy, anger issues, low self-esteem, or when they feel inferior to their partner due to any reason of less education or some other background histories. A partner’s domination may take the form of physical, sexual, emotional, or any other type of abuse. Some people due to any traditional customs think that it’s their right to control or dominate their partner. Some have psychological disorders. Some are those who learned this type of behavior from growing up watching this type of behavior in their homes. Alcohol or drug consumption can also lead to this behavior. Inequality in gender is also a cause of domestic violence; women are the most common victims of domestic violence.

Effects of domestic violence:

Domestic violence can cause physical and emotional harm to the person. It can cause anxiety, depression, stress, eating and sleeping disturbance, illness, shame, anger, low self-esteem, self-harm, etc.

Whether children witness or experience abuse, it can take a toll on their development. Domestic violence victims are not isolated to intimate partners. Children are at an increased risk for emotional behavioral problems regardless if they were directly abused or not.

“When it comes to abuse, you believe there’s no way out. There is always help. There is always a way out.”

Rev. Donna Mulvey
