9th Class Biology Chapter no 2 Extra Short Questions From Book:
Question # 1: What is the Biological method?
Answer: The scientific method in which biological problems are solved is termed as a biological method.
The biological method has played an important role in scientific research for almost 500 years. From Galileo's experiment ( in the 1590s) to the current researches, the biological method has contributed to advancements in medicine, ecology, technology, etc. The biological method also ensures the quality of data for public use.
Question # 2: Write the steps involve in solving a biological problem.
Answer: In solving a biological problem biologist takes the following steps;
1: Recognitions of a biological problem
2:Observation
3: Hypothesis formulation
4: Deduction
5: Experimentation
6: Summarization of results
7: Reporting the results
Question # 3: What is quantitative and qualitative observation?
Answer: Quantitative observation: are invariable and measurable and can be recorded in terms of numbers.
FOR EXAMPLE, The freezing point of water is 0 degree C and the boiling point is 100 degrees C
Qualitative observations: are those which use your senses to observe the results.
FOR EXAMPLE, The freezing point of water is colder than the boiling point.
Question # 4: What are the characteristics of the hypothesis?
Answer: The following are the characteristics of a good hypothesis:
1: It should be a general statement
2: It should be a tentative idea
3: It should agree with available observations
4: It should be kept as simple as possible
5: It should be testable and potentially falsifiable
Question # 5: What is the meaning of the word Malaria?
Answer: Malaria derived from two words "mala" means bad and "aria" means air.
Question # 6: What were the observations made by Laveran?
Answer: The following are the observations of Laveran.
1: Malaria and the marshy areas have some relation.
2: Quinine is an effective drug for treating malaria.
3: Plasmodium is seen in the blood of malarial patients.
Question # 7: What was the deduction made by Laveran?
Answer: The deduction made by Laveran was:
"If Plasmodium is the cause of malaria, then all persons ill with malaria should have Plasmodium in their blood".
Question # 8: What were the observations made by A. F. A King?
Answer: The following are the observations made by A. F. A King.
1: People who slept outdoors were more likely to get malaria than those who slept indoors;
2: People who slept under fine nets were less likely to get malaria than those who did not use such nets;
3: Individuals who slept near a smoky fire usually did not get malaria.
Question # 9: What are theories and laws?
Theory:
The hypotheses that stand the test of time (often tested and never rejected) are called a theory.
Law:
If a theory survives such a doubtful approach and continues to be supported by experimental evidence, it becomes a law or principle.
Question # 10: What is Data organization?
Answer: To formulate than to test hypotheses, scientists collect and organize data. Before conducting an experiment, a scientist needs to describe data collection methods. It ensures the quality of the experiment. Data is organized in different formats like graphics, tables, flowcharts, maps, etc.
Question # 11: What is data analysis?
Answer: Data analysis is a process of inspecting, cleansing, transforming, and modeling data to discover useful information, informing conclusions. It is done through the application of statistical methods i.e. Ratio and Proportion.
Question # 12: What is Bioinformatics?
Answer: Bioinformatics and computational biology involve the analysis of biological data, particularly DNA, RNA, and protein sequences.
